Michael Gee classical guitar for sale

SOLD Michael Gee Spruce Indian Rosewood

Michael Gee Spruce Indian Rosewood 650mm scale

Michael has been making high quality guitars for over forty years and has gained an international reputation for building concert level classical guitars.  This particular guitar was owned by my guitar teacher who bought it new from Michael.  It is only being changed as my teacher was wishing to move to a guitar with a shorter scale because of finger stretch issues.

The guitar has the standard dimensions of 650mm scale and 52mm nut.  It has Indian Rosewood back and sides, a beautifully aged Spruce top, Ebony fingerboard a lovely, shaped Rosewood saddle and Sloane tuning machines.  The very close-grained Spruce top with its medullary rays came from Canada when a community decided to replace their very old wooden bridge with a concrete one and some parts of the timber structure were identified by a lumber dealer as being excellent for musical instruments.  So, the top is not only old it is very well aged. The string spacing at the nut is a standard 43mm.  As can be seen, Michael used individual saddle segments for each string to allow fine changes to the action as necessary.  currently the string heights at the 12th fret are fairly standard at 3mm and 3.5mm for the high and low E strings respectively.  The guitar is in very good condition given its age and has been carefully looked after.  About fifteen years ago it suffered a fine shrinkage crack behind the bridge to the lower bout.  This was repaired by the luthier David Oddy and has been stable ever since.  The sound was unaffected.  As to tone, the guitar has bright trebles and a well balanced bass response.
