Stephen Eden 2019 Spruce Cypress 650mm scale

Stephen is one of the younger generation of UK luthiers who are forging international reputations for the quality of their workmanship and the tone and balance of their instruments.  Stephen makes a number of classical models - his entry level Cadenza, a Concert model, a Grand Concert model  and at the top of his range Hauser II 1959 and Friederich 1980 Bench copies.  His European outlet is Siccas Guitars.

The guitar offered for sale is Stephen's copy of the famous La Leona which was the only one Torres named and the only guitar he kept during his life.  Stephen made this copy in 2019 and is the only one of the La Leona design which he has made.  It features a high grade Spruce top and Cypress back and sides, with the design incorporating a tornavoz.  The body is slightly smaller than a standard classical but the combination of woods and the tornavoz produces a highly responsive guitar with great volume.  The lightweight feel of the guitar provides an intimate playing experience without any loss of projection.  The Schaller Grand Tuners ensure easy and accurate tuning and the sound has an immediacy and brightness of attack as well as great balance across the strings.  Stephen chose to modify the bridge design slightly and use string ties with a closing bridge plate, which enhances the aesthetics of the guitar.  overall the guitar is in excellent condition and there is a wonderful smell of new cypress wood when opening the case.  I would summarise the guitar as having such a character that it is a joy to play.
