John Ray Spruce Maple 630mm scale

John Ray has managed to establish a world class reputation having initially set up his workshop in Granada with no idea that it was the Spanish centre of lutherie.  He attributes his development into a world class luthier to the guidance of Rolf Eichinger, without whose guidance the outcome might have been different.  At the moment John works on his own making fine classical, flamenco and historic guitars.

The guitar is one from John's historical output and is a Torres 153 copy.  it has a Spruce top and Bird's Eye Maple back and sides.  As a Special commission the scale length was reduced to 630mm, and the nut width is slightly smaller at 51mm.  The inlay work is Mother of Pearl.  Silky smooth Rodgers tuning machines complete the line up.  Overall the guitar is in superb condition with hardly any signs of playing, with a small, hardly perceptible short mark on a rib.  The guitar is amazingly light, but produces very clear note separation and projection.
