Brian Cohen 2022 Madagascar Rosewood 650mm scale
Brian began making guitars in 1972 and describes himself as the UK's longest established classical guitar builder. Over his long career Brian has built up an international following of concert and discerning amateur players, including such names as Julian Bream amongst others. His guitars follow the Hauser 1/Torres design and are built using Spanish methods. The result is a light and very responsive instrument with excellent tonal qualities combined with good volume and projection. Typically his guitars retail for in excess of £8k and there is the inevitable waiting list.
The guitar has a Spruce top and book-matched Madagascar Rosewood back and sides. It was built in 2022 and has had little playing during its lifetime. Brian did make a small repair to the shellack finish and this has restored the guitar to virtually mint condition. When it was originally built Brian fitted an under-saddle pick up which he has now removed and the removable plug in the lower bout was designed by him during manufacture. As with Brian's guitars generally, the decoration is restrained and elegant but showing the highest level of craftsmanship. The relatively new Spruce top gives a bright sharp treble response and the bass is loud firm and secure. The tuning machines are Rodgers. For anyone wishing to own an example of Brian's recent work, the guitar represents an opportunity to do this at a fraction of the new price.
